AMD Focuses on mullti-GPU

AMD has stated that it will focus on putting multiple GPUs on a separate card as a way to scale the performance of high-end graphics offering. The first product will be called Radeon HD 3870 X2 – note how the “X2” term has been nicely borrowed from the CPU line. I like it.

The view is interesting although not new: 3Dfx (RIP) used to put multiple

Voodoo chips on a restricted board. What that really tells us, is that the current one GPU Architecture of AMD is not competitive suitable, and whether they can’t win with a without chip, it means troubles.

Disclaimer: I used to work for the competition
