Apple aware of iPhone 4 antenna troubles two years ago?

It seems that Apple was aware of the possibility of Antennagate happening, as the bug for touching the handset the wrong way, incurring a signal loss was filed a couple of years back. Strangely adequate, it seems as though the problem wasn’t dealt with since soon after, or was it caught out way too late (i.e. after the iPhone 4 rolled out)? We hope that the entire issue will be a lesson for Apple to learn from and bounce back better than ever with the next iteration of the iPhone. It is said that

the next generation iPhone will probably offer an external antenna with all the advantages of the iPhone 4 antenna, sans any niggling problems. After all, the current antenna issue with the iPhone 4 didn’t really dampen perceived sales figures, but it did lead to some hilarious ads from Apple’s rivals.
