DeLorme’s latest product announcement, the Earthmate PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator is touted to hit retail shelves sometime next month in the US, although no concrete moment has been penciled in just yet. The Earthmate PN-60w holds the distinction of being the first handheld GPS in the world that enables Type & Send text messaging via satellite. Yup, you read that right - it will connect sans wires with the SPOT Satellite Communicator, where all messages composed on the PN-60w’s internal keyboard can be relayed via satellite for

delivery thanks to established SPOT technology. Bear in mind that such messages are not dependent on cellular phone coverage, since it uses satellite technology instead. No view on pricing as at press instance though, but it certain sounds like the device to have for messaging addicts.
