gps with sprint Compass 597 broadband card

We were on a roadtrip the other day and had our Compass 597 (sierra wireless) broadband card with us. Unaware of the cool features of that device we plugged it in and started browsing the internets.

Well it turns out that Compass 597 from Sierra Wireless plus features an A-GPS receiver. All we had to was go on that tab end enable GPS tracking after accepting some sort of agreement we didn’t read (something about privacy ;).

The Sprint SmartView software was smart decent to tells us which port it was sending the

NMEA output so we could tell our MS Streets and Trips 2006 which COM port to listen to. After that we were getting turn by turn directions as usual.

Overall we were very happy with out Compass 597 mobile broadband card which plus features a microSD card reader in case you need it. However we more than pleased when it saved one of staff members from being deported at the border after he was able to download proof of current visa from his newsletter :)
