iPhone 2.1 Beta 4 seeded; push notification removed

Apple sent out their Firmware 2.1 Beta 4 to developers, it seems. The focus of that update? Why, bug fixes, of course.

What’s interesting though is Apple removed the push notification service from that release. As you may remember, that service is intended to act as the basis for background process support. that would be particularly favourable developers of messaging services like AIM. Prior to that development, the feature was to be delivered in September, but

that seems like it won’t happen now.

It’s unclear the reasons why push notification was removed, but we do know that it is being held for “further development.” Perhaps Apple is being additional cautious now and waiting to release changes and updates until they are positive they will work. They’ve probably had adequate of the MobileMe fiasco and don’t want a repeat.
