Most of us would associate camera lenses with something much harder than liquid, but a Japanese giant in a small US firm has sent word that they are working on a method to develop fluid optics in digital cameras and cellphones within the next few years. It focuses by changing shape under pressure from moving parts around their circumference, enabling the manufacturers to create a huge array of lenses to supply a longer focal length

or ultra-thin units that can be used in smaller gadgets. For those living in colder countries, fear not about the lenses freezing as it can operate from -20 to +60ºC. It won’t be released anytime soon though, as it will still take a fair number of years before the product is ready for commercial release.
