Despite Motorola giving the Xoom Android tablet an unlockable bootloader, it looks like Motorola isn’t too keen on having users rooting and customizing their devices. The Motorola Xoom, an Android tablet which went on sale last week has been promised an upgrade to support Verizon’s 4G LTE network in the future, however that may not apply to everybody. According to some reports online, Motorola won’t give you the 4G LTE upgrade whether you have rooted your tablet and customized it with unofficial ROMs and hacks. Which puts Android enthusiasts that plan to take the 4G LTE update in a difficult position – do they wait for the upgrade before customizing their devices and use it as it is now, or do they

customize it now, reset it for the update and next root it again, or not bother messing with the tablet at all? It’s understandable that Motorola’s 4G LTE update might need the official operating system to work, but not giving the freedom to customize their devices whether they want an upgrade is doesn’t sound like the “openness” that Android is known for. One less reason to buy the Motorola Xoom? What are your thoughts?
