Nokia Haptikos Touchscreen Technology

Nokia’s haptikos tactile touchscreen technology is pretty interesting, with the Finnish cell phone manufacturer recently filing a patent application for it. Haptikos technology is meant to create a “variable and controllable user perceived surface roughness or friction coefficient”, and that is achieved by placing a “plurality of closely spaced voltage controllable protuberances” which can be either lowered or raised on a touchscreen surface. Sounds like rocket science to me, but as

lengthy as it offers the relevant tactile feedback while I’m sifting through the relevant applications on my Nokia super smartphone, I’m a happy man. How and when do you think Apple will take the tactile feedback route with their iPhone?
