off-road navigation software Tracky

Tracky is an off-road navigation software that can be used during various outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing, skiing, etc. whether you’ve taken your auto navigation system into the woods you probably realized that it becomes more of a paper weight than a navigation device. Without roads most can’t operate. That’s why you might need an off-road navigation software.

Tracky will run on any PDA or mobile phone with Microsoft PocketPC 2003 or higher such as Windows Mobile 5 or 6. It will work with any GPS receiver - bluetooth or wired - that is NMEA-0183 compatible.

Tracky additionally supports Google Maps so you can overlay your positional info on

top of satellite and/or street maps whether your handheld device has some sort of World Wide Web access. whether Google Maps is not good abundant for you can plus import and calibrate maps of your own.

The latest version that just got released last week has the following highlights:

  • record and share tracks you walk/drive/etc
  • online GoogleMaps: free maps anywhere you go
  • GPX support: direct import in GoogleEarth
  • follow your buddies and chat with them

You can download the trial version for free but it is only good for 15 minutes. You better decide fast! The full version costs 30 €.
