Rugged tablet PC’s with GPS option are all starting to look the same these days (see Mitac E100, Algiz 8, Catcher) . that day we’re looking at Duros from Roper Mobile Technology. Duros is their largest tablet PC that is environmentally sealed. It can carry anything from:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • GSM
  • GPRS
  • EDGE
  • UMTS
  • GPS

depending on who they’re contracting for and what their needs are. Which additionally means you won’t be getting one.

Duros operates on Windows XP (or Linux) has 8.4″ sunlight viewable, SVGA resistive

touch screen and an AMD Geode LX 800 Processor or Intel Celeron M 1.0 GHz, and up to 1 GB memory. It comes with 120GB storage but whether you must have the solid state drive you can go up to 64GB.

In our opinion the most vital feature that makes these rugged tables PC’s suitable for mission critical operation is their hot swappable batteries. With its 44Wh battery it consumes 5 W energy on standby, 15 W during operation so you can play solitaire at sub zero temperatures for up to 3 hours… (more…)
