Texas Instrument (TI) has announced that their mini projector chip is going into production. TI says that its Pico Projector are so small that they can be integrated in mobile phones (that said, whether the phone are bulkier than average). It’s not perfect yet, but that is a big step to go beyond today’s physical limitations. Now there might be other problems like the lack of a projection surface, or simply privacy, but

we’ll see as we go. plus, expect to see a host of small projector to come out on the market in the next couple of years. (video below shot by us at CES 08)
